Dr. Kathleen Perry:
So, let’s talk about the perfect diet, the ideal diet, for women who are over 50. I’m teasing you. There isn’t one and you know this. There’s no one size fits all diet for any woman, any man, any human being at any age. We’re all different. Now honestly genetically, we are pretty similar, but the nuances in our genetics, our age, our lifestyle, our current state of health, our personalities, our beliefs; they all create a framework for the need to create an eating protocol, I don’t like the word diet, an eating protocol that’s unique and optimal for you. And guess what, you don’t have to be perfect 100% of the time to be happy, healthy, and vibrant, but what you do need to do is to accept responsibility for the fact that you are the one that needs to discover your optimal diet for you. Now, I do find it helpful to look at some of the eating plans or diets out there and use them as a framework to start the discovery process of what might be the best for you, always tweaking it a little bit. So, some of the good diets out there, or potentially good diets with modification, that I encourage my patients to explore are the Paleo diet, the Mediterranean diet, and even a Ketogenic diet, or a less stringent form of that would be a low carbohydrate/high fat diet. Those are some of the diets that you might want to explore as a jumping off point or a starting point, if you really do need to do kind of a reset. Maybe you’ve strayed away from good eating habits or maybe you’re dealing with a current health challenge right now and you just want to get a fresh start. So it’s not bad to experiment with one of those eating plans for say a month or so, and then tweak and modify and experiment and explore how you can take that rather rigid, externally imposed, eating plan and make it your own. So I would love to hear from each of you. What kind of eating plan are you on that’s working for you or what have you tried that hasn’t worked or what are your struggles? If you send an email to me, I would love to answer your questions.
