Hi! it’s Dr. Perry,
So I want to talk to you a little bit more about diet today. Now you know that I believe, and I think you agree with me, that there isn’t a one size fits all diet for anyone. You’ve got to figure out for yourself the best way of eating to support your body and your individual goals. Now that being said, I think the Paleo diet is one of a couple diets out there that is excellent as a framework or a jumping off place that you can use to begin to formulate your own personalized eating plan, and one thing that comes up with a lot of patients when I mention the Paleo diet is that they’re really concerned that it’s a high protein diet and they’re going to have to eat a lot of meat. And while animal products are, you know included and recommended, on the Paleo diet, and in my opinion do constitute something that is beneficial to our bodies, the Paleo diet isn’t necessarily high protein because that’s the area where you get to tweak the Paleo diet. You can determine how much protein, carbohydrate, and fat that you want to eat. What’s right for your body. The balance of those three macronutrients is going to provide your body with the best nutrition and the best optimal functioning within the framework of Paleo. Which basically is elimination of grains, dairy, and legumes. That’s the Paleo diet. So, you take the foods on the Paleo diet, and then you determine how much protein how much carbohydrate, and how much fat is going to work best for your diet. And it’s not going to necessarily be high protein. You’re going to individualize that for yourself.
