Video – The Most Important Thyroid Test is One You May Not Know About (AND Why You Must Have It)

Dr. Kathleen Perry:

Hi! Today I want to share something very important with you about Hypothyroid. Now you probably know that hypothyroid is much more common in women than in men. You may also know that it’s very common in women over 50. First, I want to share my story because it’s a story that I see over and over again with the women that I work with. Back in 1993 I had put on a few extra pounds and the strategies that I used to get the weight off just were not working. So I ran a thyroid panel, and found out that indeed I had hypothyroid. I did some things that seemed to help, and several years went by, I then discovered that one of the most common causes of hypothyroid was an immune attack on the thyroid gland. It’s called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. So, I ran additional lab testing and yes, indeed I found out that was what was causing my issues. That was a game changer, because up until that point I was not doing strategies to support my immune system. So, it’s very important that if you’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroid but have not been evaluated to determine whether or not you have Hashimoto’s or not, you must get that done. Even if you’re on thyroid medication and it seems to be helping, but of course in many cases it’s not helping the symptoms that a lot of women have, you’ve got to have these additional tests run. You need to know if you have Hashimoto’s so that your protocol can also include strategies to support your immune system.
